The Baltic Sea Philharmonic was founded in 2008 by the Usedom Music Festival and stands for an idea that is more urgently needed today than ever before: the cultural unity of all ten countries in the Baltic Sea region. This year, it will once again be a guest on Usedom and give voice to the longing for peace in Peenemünde, a former war zone.
The 22-year-old Finnish violinist Iidamari Ahonen lives in Berlin. She studied at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki and the Berlin University of the Arts, among others. She received important inspiration in master classes with Elina Vähälä and Ilja Grubert. As a soloist, she has performed with the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Tampere Philharmonic. Iidamari Ahonen has already won numerous awards and will receive the Usedom Music Prize this year.
Joshua Weilerstein is one of the most sought-after conductors of his generation. Born in the USA in 1987, the musician with Lithuanian roots impresses with his exceptional musicality and keen sense for programming. He has conducted renowned ensembles such as the New York Philharmonic, the London Philharmonic, the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington, D.C., and the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra.
